The Cheetah Intelligent Power Solution is an IoT Active Power Factor corrected Intelligent and robust Switch Mode Power Supply that is designed to charge 24V lead acid batteries from mains power whilst simultaneously powering a 24V load and provides uninterrupted battery power to the load in the event of loss of mains power.

The Cheetah surpasses competitor products in its input working voltage range (up to 300VAC), its resilience to mains surges and poor quality of supply and its sophisticated lightning protection and self preservation capabilities. This makes it a very reliable and dependable solution in applications where quality of service cannot be compromised due to down time.

Features

The active power factor input is designed for a wide mains supply with two variants, one which has been optimized for 230V 50Hz mains (IPS-220) and one for 110V 60Hz mains (IPS-110). Both variants are designed to operate in under and over voltage conditions on the mains. The Cheetah IPS has separate battery and load outputs so that it can switch each output individually as well as monitor both load and battery voltages and currents separately.

The Cheetah IPS is designed to protect itself from extreme over voltage conditions on the mains by disconnecting itself from the mains in the event of an over voltage condition beyond the capabilities of the design. The charger continues to monitor the mains during this over voltage condition and will restore itself to normal operation when the mains voltage falls back within limits.

The Cheetah IPS internal monitoring and control circuitry is powered from both the mains input and the battery so that in the event of loss of mains the charger can continue to function normally to supply the load from the batteries and continue to provide all the safety features and protection such as load disconnect on low battery etc.

The Cheetah IPS has an ethernet interface which allows for remote monitoring and logging of all power supply parameters (voltages, currents, temperatures etc) as well as remote control of the supply.

24V battery nominal output range. (programmable 24 – 29V charging with battery attached, 24V fixed output without battery attached).
30A Total output current (up to 30A to battery, up to 8A to load, sum of load and battery current cannot exceed 30A). 30A current limit can be reduced through a configuration setting if required.
Separate disconnect for load and battery in the event of over load or short circuit on either.
Fast charging of batteries after power outage.
Boost / Absorption / Float charge modes with configurable voltage settings.
Incorrect battery / reverse polarity detection.

Incorrect connection detection on load and battery connectors (Battery connected to load terminals or vice versa).
No switch over time in the event of loss of mains power or restoration of mains (battery is directly connected through to the load even during charging).

Separate load and battery connections with individual voltage and bi-directional current sensing on each.
Standard Anderson connectors on load and battery outputs for easy connection.
Configurable battery/output voltage to suite all battery types.
Local RS-232 serial port for monitoring and configuration.
Ethernet port for remote control, monitoring and configuration with strict authentication security.
Standard IEC socket for mains input with easily accessible external fuse.

Active monitoring of mains grid voltages.
Intelligent temperature monitoring of internal temperatures with output power throttling to keep the unit operating within thermal design limits.
4 tricolour status LEDs on the front indicate state of mains, battery, load and internal system.
Push notifications to a remote server through the Ethernet interface in the event of fault or error conditions such as loss of mains.
User friendly web interface.

Protection circuitry and filtering

The Cheetah IPS has comprehensive surge protection on the input for mains borne surges, lighting strikes and over voltage conditions and shall meet IEC standards 61000-4 (electrical fast transients) and 61000-5 (lightning and industrial surges).
Output surge protection on load output for nearby lightning strikes.
The Cheetah IPS has EMI filtering on the input and is designed to meet the appropriate EMI standard for Class B equipment (domestic environment) for both conducted and radiated emissions.
EMI filtering on the output to meet relevant standards.
Output current limiting and output short circuit protection.
Self temperature monitoring and thermal overload current fold back and shut down.
Soft-start circuitry on mains and battery to ensure long life of internal relays.
Mains disconnect in the event of sustained overvoltage condition on the mains, such as in the event of cable theft (Neutral – Earth link).

Output

The Cheetah IPS is designed to charge 24V Lead Acid batteries but can be configured to charge a non-standard battery configuration. A 12V battery variant is also available from EVS.

The Cheetah IPS provides the following modes of operation:

Boost charge to 29.6V (14.8V for 12V variant) followed by absorption phase.
Float charge at 27.6V (13.8V for 12V variant)
24V (12V) nominal load output voltage if no battery connected (load output tracks battery voltage when a battery is connected).
22V nominal (11V) Low voltage load disconnect to protect the battery from deep discharge.
All these above levels can be individually programmed as required.
